EMBARKATION/CABIN - Despite embarkation time of 1:00 p.m. on cruise docs, we were allowed
on around 12:15. We had
cabin 7606 (cat. D), a deluxe stateroom with private balcony. Stateroom was very
comfortable, not cramped at all.
Balcony was every bit worth the extra money, though a bit on the loud side as the ship's
steel hull seemed to amplify
voices of crusiers from the other balconies on out deck. Little extras such as shampoo,
etc. are somewhat limited as well.
Overall, extremely comfortable. SHORE EXCURSIONS - We booked all our shore excursions
through our TV set, which was a
big relief to me - a first-time cruiser - as I had heard horror stories about long lines
at the desk. Excursions were
generally very good, though a tad overpriced in my opinion. THEATRE SHOWS - The one weak
link in our entire
experience. The only hting that saved the shows in the Broadway Melodies Theatre was a
comedian (can't remeber the
name) and a group called 'Four Past Midnight.' Both were flown in for our cruise. The
six-member Wave Revue
dance/singing troop needed serious work, however, particularly on their showcase
production, 'In the Heat of the Night.'
Everyone at our table agreed that this was the only major problem with the cruise. Other
musicians on board are
excellent. SEASICKNESS - If you go on the Southern Caribbean route, the first day of the
cruise at sea (Sunday) will be the
roughest because of the ship's heading to the current and swells. Several cruise staffers
confirmed the frist day is the
toughest. I saw a few people having a hard time, so if you are prone to seasickenss, take
the appropriate cautions. Rest of
the cruise was very smooth. OVERALL - A beautiful ship. I wouldn't hesitate taking a trip
on it again.
