Generally, our cruise was extremely enjoyable. The aspect which seems to stand out the
most is the service : amiability was prominent. Our stewart,
Victor, was always, and I mean ALWAYS happy. He loved to make a 'pillow sculpture' out of
various items around our cabin, so that when we
returned from morning activities, we had a clean, and humorous cabin. The other servicemen
who stood out were our waiter and assistant waiter,
Lee and Antonio. Both extremely nice and humorous, quick to answer our every whim. Lee had
an expression, with his Thai accent, of saying
'exxcellent' when he reccomended a dish, as well as an occasional display of napkin
oragami which he produced, which made it all the more
enjoyable. Antonio, a fairly short and lovable porteguese (?) man, had a habit when giving
our evening coffee, of using a spoon which he put into
the handle, and, with an un-filled cup, pretend that he had spilled coffee upon our laps
by allowing the cup to swing around the spoon. He seemed
to pick a victim every night, eventually getting every one of us. Food was good. Only a
few dishes weren't very enjoyable : the Avacado soup was
fairly repulsive, even with the addition of salsa (Mexican night). Also, the first night
they served duck, which was a bit fatty, and difficult to eat. Other
than that, however, the food was excellent. WONDERFUL key lime pie, tira misu, and other
deserts. Also, the lamb chops were excellent.
Entertainment was good. I found the two shows by the RCCL Review crew (or whomever they
are called) in the Can Can Lounge to be fairly corny,
with strange suits and songs. However, the comic was absolutely HILARIOUS, as well as the
magician. Also, the chubby african american singer was
funny and very entertaining. Night clubs were fairly good, even though there was really
only one night club : the Guys and Dolls lounge. It had a
good stereo system with Kareoke and dance floor, complete with lights. The gym was pretty
bad, I must say. Outdated equipment with limited
resources, all in an incredibly SMALL room. There really wasn't a spa on board at all but
a few small rooms in the back of the little gym room to
suffice for them. Ports of call were beautiful, and enjoyable. Overall, the Mexican
Riviera Song of America cruise was enjoyable, and I reccomend it
for a overall good time.

I completely enjoyed the cruise. There were three adults and a teenage girl in our cabin,
but we managed well. The closet design
gave us plenty of room for hanging our clothes. The vanity area also gave us extra room to
store things. RCCL has sold the Song
of America, so hurry and book a cruise. The ship is in good condition and there are lots
of activities for all age groups. The
embarkation area needs more chairs. We were not allowed on the ship at the time stated,
and had to stand a long time in a
packed room. However, debarkation went very well. Our cabin steward, Glenroy, was
wonderful. He was always there when we
needed him and even cleaned gum off of my daughter's sunglasses as a surprise to her. I
enjoy the Ship Shape program a lot.
There are a variety of activities for all abilities and lots of different prizes to earn,
not just a t-shirt or visor. The outside deck on
seven has several stairs to go up and down while doing laps for the Walkathon. This would
be difficult for the handicapped. I
would encourage my friends to cruise on Song of America. The Oklahoma lounge is very nice
room for exercising in the day and
dancing at night.

We had lots of fun on this cruise! Since we live on the West Coast, the airfare and cruise
price were very
reasonable and a good value. The Mexican ports were very nice. We got to see them this
time, our last cruise, on
Carnival diverted the ship to San Francisco instead of Mexico (Hurricane Nora).
The Mexican Ports were very nice, Cabo San Lucas was our favorite. We wish the ship had
spent more time there,
tendering 1200 people to shore really cuts into the port call time. Mazatlan had great
shopping and partying. Try to
arrange a group get together at Senor Frog's, you'll have a wonderful time. Puerto
Vallarta is very scenic, prices
tend to be a little higher there, some sort of local sales tax. A lot of people from the
ship went into the resort hotels
for sunning poolside and lunch. We did not take any of the scheduled shore excursions, in
Mexico, most are
available onshore, at lesser cost. (Onshore bookings are at your own risk).
Not much sense in talking about the ship, both Song of America and the Viking Serenade
have been sold and will
no longer be part of the Royal Caribbean fleet. Harmony of the Seas is scheduled to
replace Song of America on
the Mexican Riviera.
Activities were abundant and both staff and fellow passengers were very friendly. We made
some new friends and
participated in onshore activities with them. The food on this cruise was, at best,
average. Dinner has been one of
the highlights of our previous cruises. On this cruise, one couple disembarked in Cabo and
never returned.
Another ate their meals onshore. Our table for eight dwindled to a table for four. Our
waiter Felix was somewhat
apathetic although Hans, our headwaiter helped make up for the poor table service.
The Royal Caribbean repeat cruisers party was great! We would definitely recommend this
cruise line to our
friends.

We booked the cruise with the knowledge that we were getting married in St.George on
Tuesday, July 21, 1998. We did
ask for assistance from the cruise line as soon as we booked and they informed us that
unless we were getting married in
the port of New York - they couldn't be of assistance to us. I planned the entire intimate
affair myself by making phone calls
to Bermuda to arrange everything. Our original plan was to be married on the ship in
Bermuda - but we were informed that
we couldn't. Everything however worked out - except the night of our wedding. We called
the purser's desk to see if they
could possibly call us a cab inorder for us to get to our ceremony - and they asked us if
we were doing our wedding through
the cruise line and we said, no, we didn't think we could have and they said they couldn't
call a cab for us. Short of the long
story, everything worked out and we hailed a cab and made it to the location for the
wedding.
Embarking in New York was quick and easy.....however disembarking the following week back
in New York took many long
hours. Due to the fact that many people hadn't cleared customs yet - this holds up the
remaining passengers for many
hours. We did not get off the ship until almost 11:00 am - after waiting in a lounge for
many hours. There should be on any
cruise an easier way to disembark - like holding all individuals that have to clear
customs in a certain lounge and release
the rest of us.
The food was fabulous and our waiter and bus boy were excellent! We enjoyed the shows, the
lounges and the casino! Our
cabin steward was excellent. Once we got over the little glitch of the wedding plans, our
honeymoon cruise was well worth
every penny! This was my husband's first cruise and my 10th at least and he is now hooked
on cruising. He feels there is
no other way to go on vacation except cruising - and he's right!
