Mexico- Song of America- 22 February- 1 March 1998

We flew from Vancouver to Los Angeles early in the morning of the 22nd February and were met promptly by the cruise
staff at the airport. The airport to ship process was smooth including the 30 minute ride. There is a buffet lunch waiting
on board and a little time to wait while your bags make their way to your room. This was our 2nd trip on Royal
Caribbean (Legend of the Seas was the other ship) so we were ready to make some comparisons. The Legend is newer,
therefore perhaps more elegant and luxurious. However, we had an inside cabin on the Legend and chose this time to
go for a lower outside with a queen size bed on the S of A. The S of A is 10 years old, and shows it in spots, but my wife
and I enjoyed her just the same. The food was great, the service wonderful, and the entertainment good as well. We had
wonderful tablemates at our table for eight which always makes for a good time.

Once again, we opted for the special wine and dine package. Basically you get 7 bottles of wine for $89 plus 15%. It's a
very good deal for those who like a bottle each night or as in some cases, a half bottle for lunch and they will hold it for
the 2nd day. You get a choice of about 12 different wines, and the reds were all drinkable.

If you like Las Vegas style entertainment, there is something every night. Mini- musicals, comedy, combinations of both
lasting about one hour. We found it a nice place to go after a meal.

Ports- Cabo St Lucas is small, but picturesque. You tender in, i.e., a smaller boat takes you from the ship to shore, and
we had about 4-5 hours there. We just walked around, however one of the couples went on the 3 hour bus tour and they
enjoyed it. My wife and I are used to beggars and hawkers, but if you are not, you should know that these cruise ships
provide necessary dollars for the locals, so you can expect to be approached often with things for sale.

Mazatlan- We took the city tour, and our impressions were not favourable. It's a congested, poor city so we went with the
flow and enjoyed it for what it was, a different experience.

Puerto Vallarta- Much nicer, more touristy, better scenery, and prices to match. We once again took the city tour and
found it good value at 22 dollars per person. We asked the driver to drop us off at noon in the heart of the city and
enjoyed some large shrimps in garlic at the restaurant recommended by the cruise line. It's about 4 dollars back to the
ship. U.S. dollars are accepted in all the ports.

Other comments- The coffee was terrible all over the ship, and the cruise staff sometimes tried too hard to get clapping
and ovations for less significant events. We liked the Verandah deck for breakfast where they serve from 8-10:30, and you
can eat in the fresh air at the stern of the ship. On the S of A, if you didn't want a drink, they left a napkin on your table
so you wouldn't be bothered again. On the Legend, they didn't and you were bugged every few minutes by different
people. I told Royal Caribbean about this, so perhaps they have listened to their customers.

Dressing for Dinner- For the formal nights, most men wore dark suits, and most women cocktail dresses, although there
is a wide range from tuxes and gowns to sports jackets and pant suits. The weather was perfect and there seemed to be
plenty of deck chairs for everybody.

We really enjoyed ourselves on this cruise.
