This was our second cruise as a large group. Last year 16 of us sailed on the smaller, older Oceanbreeze in the Dolphin Cruise Line. This year 14 of us went on
the Sovereign. First the positives. The embarkation/debarkation process was fantastic. We got to the port just before 1:00 and were drinking a Bahama Mama
on board within 20 minutes. We relaxed by the pool when we arrived back in Miami and after our color was called we were packed in our car again within 20
minutes. Our room (9th deck) was plenty large enough and the closed circuit television stations were very helpful concerning cruise itineries and such. They also
have a channel which does nothing but look out the front of the ship so you can check out if you are nearing port without going outside (if you're in an inside
cabin). Although we didn't care much for Nassau (we enjoyed Mexico more) 4 of us were able to get in a round of golf at the Paradise Island Golf Club. Although
very pricey ($123) if you are an avid golfer it is worth it. The course was in very good condition and the atmosphere was incredible. Lagoons on most holes and
about half a dozen holes that are oceanside. My friend actually hit a shot off the beach. Coco Cay was great, although the weather was pretty lousy. It's alot of
fun exporing, laying in a hamock and drinking "Coco Locos". I would strongly recommend renting snorkling equipment as the reef is just off the beach and you
can swim in 4 - 5 foot water and take underwater pictures of a variety of marine fish & coral, as well as sunken canons, etc... Key West is Key West. What can I
say. I live in Florida so I'm familiar with the Keys and Key West is one of the best party spots around. After shopping try to stop in Sloppy Joes for awhile, you
won't be disappointed. I agree with others who have said that less time in Nassau and more time in Key West would be nice. Now for the few downsides. We
were mildly disappointed with the food selection at dinner (no lobster?!?!)as well as the dining room staff. We felt they were "just doing a job" and at times came
across as arrogant. The bright spot at one dinner was the band of travelling musicians (2 guitars, a bass, a violin) that came to each table and played requests,
everything from showtunes to the Stones, they even play In the Godda da Vita (sp?). They were alot of fun. I had no idea where our Cabin Steward's head was
at. I ordered 2 collectors bottles of wine with the ship and Royal Caribbean engraved on them. They were in the stateroom when we got there as planned but
after we drank the first bottle the steward threw it away while cleaning the room. It took him 2 days to find another one. Then while we were at dinner the last
night he threw away 2 untouched pieces of pie one of us had purchased at the Key Lime Pie Company in Key West that day. I would also recommend that you
try to be at the front of the line when the boat unloads at Key West. Due to the ships size it has to dock by the military base which is close to 3 miles from
downtown. They have complimentary trolley cars but if you wait too long you will be standing in a long line in the heat. I wouldn't try to walk from the ship to Duval
Street unless it is somewhat cool or you are Richard Simmons. Overall, I would recommend this ship and cruise, although you need more than 4 days to explore
this entire ship due to its size.
