This was our first cruise but Royal Caribbean came highly recommended from friends. We
were not disappointed. Embarkation was fairly smooth,
however, we had some difficulty finding our cabin because in our travel documents our
floor was referred to as the Bridge Deck. Upon arriving on the
ship the floors are listed by # and we didn't know we were on the 10th floor and finding
someone for directions was not easy.
Once we found our floor our cabin steward, Jason, was more than eager to show us to our
room and explain how everything worked. We upgraded our
room through our travel agent for a fairly nominal charge and we really made use of the
separate sitting room with two sofas and the refrigerator which
was great for storing cocktails. We did have a couple of mechanical problems in our room,
the shower was completely clogged the first night and the tub
filled with water. Jason had it fixed before we came back from dinner that night. Our
bathroom light also burned out on the second night and it is totally
dark without that but, Jason had it fixed immediately. He also had the ice bucket filled
twice a day and we gave him our supercharge account # and we
would leave him notes on what we would like in our refrigerator before we left for the day
and it would be waiting for us when we got back. The cabin
steward/service was excellent and we made our appreciation known with our tip to Jason on
the last night.
We found Nassau waters to be beautiful and the shopping great fun. We took the Nassau
Sailing and Snorkeling tour and had a wonderful time. The
water was great and we saw lots of sea life on the coral reef and the crew was very
friendly. It also was a great way to see some of the homes and hotels
on shore in Paradise Island as we sailed by. The complimentary rum punch provided by the
crew hit the spot after being in the salt water.
The shopping in Nassau was filled with friendly sales help and great deals on Bahamian
liquor and jewelry. We thought it was safe and clean as we have
been to Jamaica where the beaches are beautiful, but the shopping conditions are a little
scary.
Coco Cay the cruise line's private island was very nice and we took the Jet Ski tour
around the islands and it is definitely not for beginners as you reach
speeds up to 35 miles an hour and the waters that day were very choppy. We have ridden jet
skis many times before and this was an exhilirating
experience not slow paced at all like the description of this excursion made it out to be
which made Mike very happy. The guide takes you to a sunken
ship, and sunken drug plane and there are many huge starfish and stingray along the way.
The island of Coco cay is beautiful and not crowded. We
walked to an area where there was virtually no one on the beach. The barbecue lunch was
very fun and tasty and the live calypso band added to the
tropical feel. $2.50 for a bottle of water is kind of steep though.
We didn't do a shore excursion in Key West we just shopped and explored. We found it to be
too touristy although we did pick up some great souvenirs.
We would have liked another day in Coco Cay or Nassau instead.
The food in the dining room had great variety and our waiter was very helpful with humor.
The service in the lounges was friendly and efficient while we
found the bartenders at the pool bars to be non personalble.
The last night of the cruise make sure you put aside what you are wearing the day you
leave as you must put your bags outside your cabin between 8:30
and midnight. If you have late seating for dinner and you are trying to catch a 10:30 show
there really is no time to go back and get this ready for the
next day.
Disembarkation was not very smooth. People were not clearing the decks for customs and
many foreign travelers refused to report to customs to have
their baggage checked to be cleared. This caused great delay in departing the ship.
Finding your bags after leaving the ship was like a needle in a
haystack and very unorganized.
Very few negatives on this trip. We had great weather and a wonderful time. We would
choose Royal Caribbean for a future voyage.
We have some pictures, if you would like to see just email us a request at
