Because this was our 8th cruise since 1987 (6th since 1994) and we already have #9 booked
for June, my wife and I consider ourselves to be
cruise junkies. We arrived in Miami the day prior to sailing and highly recommend this
option to all cruisers. You will arrive at the pier the next day
well rested and ready to begin enjoying all that the cruise has to offer. Also, if you are
coming from a northern climate it avoids the worry of being
snowed out on the day of travel.
We boarded the ship at approximately 1:00 pm, had lunch and by 3:00 pm had unpacked and
activated our shipboard charge account. Our cabin
was in Category D and had a private Veranda. This was one of the most roomiest cabins that
we have ever had with more than ample storage space.
The private Veranda is also one of the greatest extras that you can buy. We first had one
on a previous cruise to Alaska, and now wouldn't cruise
without one. Nothing beats having your morning coffee on the Veranda while enjoying the
privacy of your cabin.
The food was the usual cruise variety and quality expected on the main line ships such as
Royal Caribbean and Norwegian. We have always found it
to be most enjoyable and well presented, with some dishes being exceptional. Given the
number of persons being served in the time allowed, one
cannot expect Michelin 5 Stars. As always, the waiters were prompt and most accomodating.
Entertainment was varied with an assortment of comedians, singers, instrumentalists and
the very enjoyable shows presented by the company of
shipboard entertainers. Although everything may not be to your liking, you will certainly
find something to enjoy in the course of 11 nights.
Since we had previously visited all of the stops on this cruise, we limited the number of
shore excursions purchased. However, of particular note was
the Stingray City Snorkel Tour on Grand Cayman. Swimming with these friendly creatures was
a most unique experience not to missed. It was well
worth the $35 or $40 price. As in the past, sailing into and out of the dock area in
Curacao is an event not to be missed.
The Splendour of the Seas was absolutely beautiful. The Centrum and all public areas were
very lovely and tastefully decorated. The cleanliness and
maintenance of the ship could not have been better. Captain Johnny Faevelen was by far the
most enthusiastic and entertaining Captain that we
have sailed with. His daily update announcements are not to be missed.
All in all, this cruise reinforced our opinion that cruising is the finest packaged
vacation that you can purchase and represents a great value for your
dollar. We would certainly sail on this line and ship again without hesitation. We are
looking forward to our next cruise which will be a return trip to
Alaska on Royal Caribbean's new sister line, Celebrity.
