The 10 day cruise has been over for a week and I'm still asking myself, "What was I
doing at this time a week ago?" It was
the most relaxed, pampered vacation ever.
Our inside cabin was large enough to be comfortable with ample storage. The cabin steward,
Delroy, gave us
exceptionable service. He asked how we wanted our beds and kept our cabin clean, always
seemed to be available to
open our door or help with some packages, but was never around when we were sneaking in
for a little siesta. It was our
pleasure to tip for this level of service.
Before we left, we read several of the reviews. We were expecting the food to be nothing
special. I would like to offer a
different opinion. The food varied from the standards of a good restaurant to exceptional.
Several of the dishes were the
most delicious we had ever eaten and others were simply tasty. The halibut, served in the
dining room, and the swordfish,
served in the Windjammer Cafe, were my favorites. Also, try the Cherry Cheese Souffle.
We got involved in the Ship Shape activities. We try to exercise at home but we are not in
the hard body set. The staff
focused these on fun, rather than sweat. We participated in the walks on deck, the morning
stretch, ring toss, and a dance
class. It seems we were always ready for a 20 minute walk on a sunny day with the ocean
all around and the breeze in
our faces. It was fun and we earned enough Ship Shape Dollars to take home a t-shirt and
beach bag. Note: There are
aerobics classes and gym equipment for those who want more of a challenge.
There were a couple of disappointments. This ship boasts an 18 hole miniature golf course.
We assumed that the golf
course would be available for us to use at no charge. There is a $5 charge per game or you
could have unlimited play for
$30 per person. We decided not to play, there were a lot of activities to participate in
at no cost. My other disappointment
was a bad experience with a member of the purser's staff. In front of other passengers, I
was accused of cutting in line.
The other passengers had been in line with me and knew that I had not cut in line, one
even mentioned it to the lady at
the desk. She had been busy and was mistaken. This event did unjustly embarrass me and
spoil my morning. However, I
would not let this one event stop me from booking again with RCCL, the rest of the staff
was wonderful and everyone
makes a mistake sometime.
I want to finish on a positive item. The ports of call and the excursions. Don't miss out
on snorkeling with the stingrays in
Grand Cayman or climbing the Dunn River Falls in Jamaica. Both of these excursions were
well worth the cost. We will
relish the memories on many a cold dreary winter day in the Midwest.
