Our cruise on Voyager of the Sea was to depart the port of Miami on Sunday November 5, 2000. We
arranged our own air and chose to arrive in Miami on Friday about noon. We stayed at the Park Central
in South Beach Friday and Saturday evening. We rented a car from Avis at the airport because cars from
Avis (and apparently no other) can be dropped off at the pier. We arrived at Terminal 5 at the port to
board Voyager of the Seas around 11am on Sunday. We were near the front of the line, but even if we
were further back, it would have been quick because those who booked suites have a special line. After
we were checked in, we waited about 40 minutes for the ship to be ready to embark, as we were early
arrivals. Diamond members of the Crown and Anchor society have a special waiting room. We proceeded
directly to our stateroom 9564(Cat. C) on the starboard side of the ship and were pleased to find Isbeth,
our cabin stewardess finishing up and ready for us to enter the room. We requested of her to remove the
items from the mini-bar and she came back later and removed the contents – no problem. We were very
pleased with our accommodations. From the thick terry cloth robes, to the walk in closet…not to
mentioned the full size bath tub nor great veranda with 2 chairs and chaise lounge. We were impressed
with the technology on the ship. The interactive televisions worked great and we check email several
times in the week (about $4 per check). The fact that many of the staff carry cordless phones is
especially helpful. We called Isbeth a time or two and she was at the door before we could hang the
phone up. Departure from Miami was scheduled for 10pm. We were already disappointed that we were
leaving this late but while getting settled we learned it would be even hours later, so we were especially
concerned. Turns out we departed Miami at 4am Monday morning. The 10pm departure time was due to
the fact that RCI’s President was having a fund raiser that evening on the ship. (We were denied access
to these areas Sunday evening). All this followed the confusion that had ensued about the entire
departure. Friends who traveled with us and met us on the ship asked earlier and were told we would
depart at 5pm. When we called after checking in we were told the ship would depart at 2am because they
were doing some repairs to the ship. It was a RCI sales employee at lunch on Sunday right after we
arrived that told us about the President’s fund raiser. We later discovered that the work done on the ship
was quite serious. (We noticed the divers and their gear at the port in Miami) Apparently there were some
further concerns as divers were noted going under the ship a few days later in port at Ocho Rios. So
while missing sailing out of the port of Miami was a disappointment, we were delighted that the cruise was
able to go at all. Yes, the ship is huge, grand and beautiful. Missing was the warmth, coziness and
elegance of ships such as the Grandeur of the Seas. With 3500 passengers we experienced no problems
with crowds. (Those who stood in line to go to Labadee on a tender would say otherwise) A very
international population, we marveled that those we met at the beginning of the week, we virtually never
saw again, while nearly everyone we were seeing at the end of the week were fellow cruisers we’d never
seen before.
While the Royal Promenade was like a Disney mall, there were many elegant and grand
spaces on board i.e. the dining room(s), LaScala theater, Portifino’s restaurant and our personal favorite
the Connoisseur’s Club. Deck chairs were available for sun lovers, although not typically very near the
pool. Johnnie Rocket’s was a neat novelty and no problems with waiting if you didn’t try to go there at
lunch on sea days. The solarium was very nice but no retractable roof. Putt putt was fun and figure
skating was available for advance skaters (must bring own skates) on sea days 9am-9:45am. Just a few
of us were there the week we cruised. (Saturday I was by myself) Public skating I was told gets crowded
and free rentals are available. We dined with our friends at a table for 4 (we asked for larger) in the
Carmen dining room with a great view. Each evening we rotated seats to get a 360 degree view over the
course of the trip. The food was exceptional, the best we’ve experienced. Our waiter was very efficient,
but it took him awhile to warm up, despite our best efforts. We had dinner in Portofino’s after making
reservations immediately upon arrival on Sunday for Tuesday evening. An exceptional dining experience,
there was some confusion about the time. We booked 8:15pm, but when the confirmation arrived in our
cabin the night before, it said 9:15pm. When we arrived at 9:15 there was some confusion, to the effect
that perhaps they were expecting us earlier. Room service was good and could be ordered using the
interactive television or you could call direct. Room service menus for each day are printed in the
information book in the room.
We enjoyed having breakfast and/or lunch in the formal dining room
instead of Windjammer or Island Grill, either of which were okay, but nothing really special. We’re not
much into the shows but the one we did go to was not too bad. However, while we looked forward to the
ice show, it turned out to be a joke. We can’t report on the entire show as we left at about the mid point.
We saw enough. Nonetheless, there’s lots of other great live entertainment , a strings ensemble in the
centrum, a pianist perched high above the Carmen dining room, on the Magic Flute level or the
entertainer in the Pig and Whistle. While we liked the staff we’d rate the overall service average, not to be
compared with the exceptional style we found on Holland America. Tuesday morning we arrived at
Labadee. Having been there before, we elected to not get off the ship and that turned out to be the best
choice. We arrived late (due to late departure from Miami) which meant a lot of people were trying to get
on the tenders in a shorter period of time. We learned from several that the long lines and crowded island
was exasperating. Definitely do not purchase a snorkeling excursion there, save that for Cozumel. In
Ocho Rios we did as we had on a previous cruise to Montego Bay, we hired a taxi for several hours. After
trying to negotiate with a driver of a larger van, while the officials watch on, we gave up and struck a deal
with a taxi (car) and the four of us squeezed in and had a great tour of the area for $20 each. However, if
you really want to see Dunn’s River Falls, you’ll have to pay and enter the park. The view our driver took
us to was disappointing. Then there’s Cozumel. On this trip to Cozumel we had decided to get an early
start and sample one of the area beaches. Having researched the matter on the internet prior, we wanted
a nice sandy beach that stretched into the clear Caribbean waters. We gathered the often recommended
Playa Del Sol gets crowded and our inquiries of several folks we encountered during the week confirmed
that but failed to produce a better recommendation so we, armed with the aforementioned research,
chose to go to Playa San Francisco. We took a taxi and while we can’t recall the exact fare, we were told
it before we left (seems like it was about $12 or so). It was about a 20 minute ride and don’t expect much
regarding road conditions. Everything about it was fine, but the water was not clear (that was
disappointing). We were there by 10:30 ship time (9:30 local) and we were warmly greeted by the locals
who worked there. We were treated to great service and with the utmost respect by the folks who worked
here. Two beach chairs and one umbrella cost $2. Beverages could be ordered from one of the nearby
gentleman and would be delivered in a bucket of ice. Food service is available and the menu looked
good, but we chose to take one of the few waiting taxis and head back to the ship to refresh and grab
lunch in the Windjammer. Then it was a quick ($5) taxi ride downtown for some shopping. Bargains can
be found (jewelry, silver) but you’ve got to know something about what you’re looking for and be
prepared for some aggressive sales associates. We were back on board in time for departure, having
spent a great day in Cozumel. When we got back to Miami, disembarkation was quick and we were in the
Miami airport 2 hours in advance of our 11:15am flight. Overall our cruise on the Voyager of the Seas
was good. The sheer size of the ship and its unique feature are worth the voyage and it seemed an
especially good experience for families, but we would probably not go on this ship again but for a very
good deal.

I traveled with my parents and all of us had a great time. This is indeed a very big ship, but we do not
need to walk too long to get to where we want to go. The ship is very well designed, and we quickly
learned our way round the ship. We seldom needed to line up for anything, except the Ice Show.
I was amazed the number of counters open for guests to check-in. We did not wait more than 5 minutes.
Wonderful.
We really enjoyed the food in the dinning room (both lunch and dinner), and the service were excellent.
However, the breakfast menu did not change, at least in the Windjammer, so near the end of the trip, we
started to get bored.
We were upgraded to an outside cabin with balcony. We loved it. I always thought there is not much to
see at Caribbean while the ship is at sea, so no need to book a cabin with balcony. I found out this time
it is very relaxing to look at the sea in the privacy balcony. It was very refreshing there too.
We did not enjoy the private island that much. We left our cabin about one hour after the tender service
began and found the line up for the tender was so long (the line was U shape). We thought we walked 2
lengths of the ship before getting on the tender. There was not much to see or buy. So not worth it. Last
time I traveled with Princess they gave you numbers (first come first serve), so you wait in the lounge
until your number was called.
I only took one excursion trip, that is snorkeling by the boat (Columbia Reef) at Cozmuel. That was
great, lots of colorful fishes, although they cannot compare to Great Barrier Reef, and the fishes are a
bit further down in the ocean. Nevertheless, based on my own experience, this is the best outside of
Australia.
Be careful when you put/take your personal things in or out of the minibar, so that you will not trigger the
scanner. However, it is very easy to reverse the charge, besides, you can check your account any time
from your TV. I loved it.
One sore point of this trip is we could not fly home non-stop from Miami (we did have a 3 hour non-stop
flight to Miami) and took us extra 3 hours to get home. It was very confusing at the Pier to find out which
bus to board.
In summary, we had a great time. However, this ship could be too overwhelming for the first timer.

This was our second cruise and the best. Our first cruise was on the Carnival Inspiration and we really
enjoy that one. We were not sure about cruising with Royal Caribbean because the travel agent told us
that RCCL concentrated on elderly people. And they always recommend younger people to cruise
Carnival Cruise Lines. Then we saw the Voyager on t.v. and became very interested in the ship
because it was the biggest and didn’t seem to concentrate on older people regarding all it offers for
young people. So we booked the Voyager and do not regret.
The ship is amazing in every aspect. Checking in and out was very smooth. Everything is well organized.
The crew is the best.
The ship is beautiful. From the moment you embark her you will be in aw. This ship is for everyone
young and old. Everyone will have something to do. If you like to party this is your ship. If you like doing
sport when you are at sea, this is definitely the ship you are looking for. Kids will love it.
Cabin: We had an inside cabin and it was lovely. A bit small but nicely decorated. The bathroom was
smaller than the one we had on the Carnival ship but very nice. I liked the shower very much. It was kind
of round with curved sliding doors, very nice touch. Our cabin steward Mayra take good care of
everything and was very nice to us. She made cute animals with our towels every night.
Food: Food in the windjammer and the island grill located on deck 11 aft was served in abundance and
service was excellent. Breakfast is served from 7:00 till 11:30 (till 11:00 when in port) and was good.
Lunch was served from 12:00 till 3:00 and was excellent, good variety. From 3:00 till 5:00 they served
snack witch was a combination of cold and hot dishes. From 6:00 till 9:00 they served a casual dinner.
Desert was very good and plentiful. Johnny Rockets located on deck 12 aft was very good alternative
spot to have a meal. It is a cute place that serve good food. There was a jukebox at every table and
they actually give you the coins to put in it and choose your favorite songs. Another alternative place for
dining is the Italian restaurant portofino located on deck 11 adjacent to the windjammer. They charge
$15 per person to eat there. The café promenade located forward on the Royal Promenade is open 24
hours serving pizza, sandwiches, cookies and deserts. Room service is available 24 hours. Food can be
ordered from a menu that is provided in the stateroom. The Dining room is breathtaking. The food is
good, great variety and excellent service. They had the best caesar salad I have ever tasted and it is
there every day on the menu.. Our waiter “Angelo” was very good but the assistant-waiter “Sammy” was
the best. He remembered everyone’s favorite drinks the second night. The guy really deserve to be
promoted as soon as possible. Everyone at our table agreed and we took care of that by putting a note
on the form we had to fill the last night of the cruise. It was a pleasure to sea and hear your waiters
singing and dancing on several nights. We appreciated that a lot. One night it was pirates night and
there was a parade of small kids marching and singing all over the place. That was very cute. Overall
food quality and service was very good to excellent.
Entertainment: Not all The shows were excellent One of them was kind of boring because of too much
singing. Dreamscape was very good and the ice-show was excellent. We missed two of the shows but
the people at our table said they were good. Some days the events were scheduled at the same time so
you have to choose witch one you don’t want to miss. Maybe they do that so you have different choices
and maybe it’s because there is no space for everyone to go to the same show.
Overall this was a great vacation. I will definitely recommend this beautiful ship to everyone and I will
definitely sail RCCL again.

This was my first cruise on Royal Caribbean. I had been on Carnival 7 times. Thoroughly pleased with
Carnival, just needed a change. I chose Royal for this ship. I heard so many great things about the
Voyager and found them all to be true. I absolutely feel in love with this ship the moment I stepped on
board. Our group consisted of 7: 3 couples, 1 single.
Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, Pre-cruise stay- My husband and I along with another couple booked our pre
cruise stay with RCCL. We were placed at the Hilton Airport. Registration for the ship was not organized
and we encountered a very long wait boarding the buses the morning of the cruise. I prefer making my
own arrangements and probably will not do through the cruise lines again.
Sunday, Boarding day- We arrived on the Voyager around 1:30. The first thing I did was make our
reservations for Portifinos. This was done via telephone in cabin. You leave a message and they
returned the call within 10 minutes. We went to the Windjammer for lunch and to meet up with the rest of
our group. Lunch was good and seats were available even though most of the passengers were present
to eat lunch. The muster drill was next. Very well organized and the staff – especially Sara- made it as
painless as possible. I was dying to tour the ship and managed to do about ½ of it before getting ready
for dinner. Unfortunately, we missed the welcome aboard show. Dinner was very impressive. We had
late seating (8:30 pm). Dinner lasted 2 hours. Our waiter- Carl – was extremely professional and
immediately welcomed us. We were treated like royalty all week. Our assistant waiter-Gustavo, was
fabulous also. He knew how to turn on the charm! We all feel in love with him and wanted to take him
home. Carl and Gustavo made our dining room experience memorable and made up for the food, which
we all agreed, was just fair. We also agreed Carnival’s food was better. After dinner, you can purchase
a souvener shooter. Each night’s concoction was different and we all actually looked forward to them.
Lincoln served them and by the third night, he knew my name. I came home with 6 very pretty glasses.
My husband won some money at the casino; I lost some, then headed for the Royal Promenade Bon
Voyage Parade. I want to mention here-Jeff, the cruise director was the best and the Captain had a
wonderfully open and friendly attitude with the passengers all week. The parade was great. RCCL truly
wanted all the passengers to feel welcomed and comfortable. A little bit of Disney World on a cruise
ship! Get there about 20 minutes before and you won’t have a problem finding a spot to view it. Tonight,
we slept with the balcony door open and listened to the sea till we fell asleep. Heaven!
Day 2- At sea- Seems our neighbors like to get up early and watch the sunrise. Having a balcony is
wonderful except for the fact that if you leave the door open, they are not sound proof and I woke up
thinking we had company in our cabin. You can hear anyone else out on their balcony. Over to the
rock-climbing wall. One very brave soul in our group decided to give it a try. There were only 3 people
waiting. Breakfast in Windjammer was cold, but there’s so much to choose from, you won’t leave
unsatisfied. We decided to hang out by the pool and had no problem finding 7 lounge chairs together.
We all enjoyed the music and the Mango Tangos. Tried Bingo. $30 to play 6 games. Tonight was
jammed with activities. The Captain’s Champagne Reception and Dreamscapes in La Scala theater. The
reception was very nice and free champagne along with some other choices was available. We then
went to La Scala. The middle level is the best as far as convenience and viewing. I had heard so many
positive reviews about Dreamscapes, and was anxiously awaiting it. As soon as the lights went off, so
did all 7 of us! I guess we were exhausted. I tried very hard to stay awake, but only managed to see part
of the show. Now I have an excuse to return on the Voyager again! My husband won some money at the
casino, and I lost some—again. Before going back to our cabin, I checked my email. Within 10 minutes, I
logged on, checked my mail and sent back a quick “I love you” to the kids at home. Very convenient,
very economical.
Day 3- Labadee Of all the ports I’ve visited, Labadee was the most disappointing. Personally, I don’t like
the fact that RCCL claims this to be their private island paradise. It’s nowhere near paradise, and the
poverty is evident regardless of how much RCCL tries to sugar coat it. I knew all about the lottery
system used which allows just a few Haitians to work on the beach when the ship comes in each week. I
had also read there was a guarded fence just beyond view to keep others out of Labadee. I felt very
depressed and sad for these people, and wondered just how much RCCL is really benefiting them.
That’s just my opinion. We tendered to Labadee around 11 am and ventured out to the most secluded
area we could find which was at the “no swimming” beach. Since it was drizzling most of the day, it didn’t
matter to us. We walked around a bit, had lunch (which was just an okay bbq) and went into the market
building, ignoring the fact we’ve been advised by many to avoid it. Once in this building, you are captive
and getting out was an ordeal. I felt terrible knowing that the ship would be leaving these people soon
and this was their last chance to make a little money. We purchased a few things and returned to ship.
Surprised by comedian David Brenner this evening and his act was great. Halloween Monster Bash was
held in Studio B. Large turnout of costumed passengers. My husband won some money at the casino,
and I lost some.
Day 4-Ocho Rios, Jamaica I love Jamaica. Probably due to the fact that both times, Peat Taylor and his
crew were our tour guides. Very experienced, reliable, friendly and patient. This was our second trip
here. Did the usual things on our first trip and I wasn’t sure what we would do this time. Decided to
venture out to Martha Brae. Mike, who works with Peat Taylor, was our guide. We hired him at the port
around 9 am and he took care of us all day. First stop, Martha Brae, which was about 40 minutes away.
We had a blast! The bamboo rafts gently glide down the river. Sooooo quiet and pretty. Our poler,
Leray, was informative, funny and sang pretty well also. We brought Red Stripe beer but you can
purchase them along the river too. Before the end of the trip, the polers will ask you to buy their carved
vases. Mike then took us to a great restaurant in Ocho Rios called BeeBeeBops (not sure of the name,
something like that). Wasn’t real authentic Jamaican, but, clean, open porch, live entertainment. We all
enjoyed it. Shopped in town for Blue Mt coffee, and some other souvenirs at the market. My honest
opinion regarding purchasing Blue Mt coffee here-save your money. I had been warned that the price is
too low and it won’t be the real thing. I purchased a pound for $16 in a sealed bag covered with burlap
anyway. When we opened it at home, the beans were dried out and stale (had some beans purchased
at a gourmet shop here and compared). Tonight’s dinner was Caribbean theme. Most passengers wore
something tropical. After dinner, we went to the casino. My husband won a little money—I lost. From
here, it was the Royal Promenade for the Mardi Gras parade and then up to the Lido deck for Dancing
Under the Stars. We caught the last 10 minutes of Vibes playing and most of the food was gone. Try not
to miss this. Lots of tropical fruits and crepes. We stopped by the Vault Disco, but it was dead.
Day 5- At Sea All 7 of us were tired. We relaxed by the pool (lounge chairs were a little harder to find),
played Bingo and had lunch at Johnny Rockets. We only had to wait about 5 minutes. Pigged out on
burgers, onion rings, chilidogs, cheese fries and of course a malt. We all shared. Food was excellent.
Tonight was the Ice Jammin Show. Just as everyone else told me, the show was captivating and
amazing. The skaters are amazing and truly talented. Rhythm & Rhyme show was excellent. I’m a West
Side Story fanatic, so I really enjoyed this show. Afterwards, there was a late night comedian who wasn’t
so great. To the casino so I could win back some money. My husband won a little---I lost.
Day 6-Cozumel, Mexico We had the day planned out-Chankanaab 9:30 till about 2, San Miguel to shop,
and a quick Margarita at Carlos & Charlies. Would have liked more time at Chankanaab, so much to do
and see. We taxied early and had no problem finding chairs on the beach. The fish here are amazing.
We had been to Chankanaab 2 yrs ago and it’s even nicer now. Lots of improvements going on. Took a
walk around and feed bananas to the iguanas. The same brave person in our group that tried rock
climbing decided to do the Dolphin Swim. She had a blast. Takes up lots of time (about 2 hrs) from
beginning to end-and they video you and make you watch it so you’ll buy it. Allow for this time if you
really want to enjoy Chankanaab. Had a great lunch there and then went off to San Miguel. Shopping
here is pretty boring. Every store has the same silver necklaces and nothing seemed to excite us
enough to buy. We were running out of time, so we skipped Carlos & Charlies. My son wanted us to
bring back some hot sauces so my husband and I took a cab to the local supermarket. It’s brand new
and on the road back to the port. Sort of a Super K-Mart. Neither of us understands Spanish, so we had
no idea what to pick. We just grabbed a bunch of bottles. Each cost only about 65 cents. Tonight we
had dinner at Portifino’s. I’m sorry to say but this was a major disappointment. There is no reason to pay
for dinner here. Stick to the dining room or if you need a change go to Johnny Rockets or the alternative
dining area.
Day 7-At Sea Finding a lounge chair at the pool was quite difficult today. All the passengers seemed to
have the same idea. Rest and relax! Did some shopping on board. I purchased a really nice 3-tape
video on the Voyager for $40. It’s the best souvenir I ever took home. Luggage was out for pick up after
dinner and the sad reminder that the vacation was almost over set in. Tonight was the Farewell Variety
show. It was excellent. Before the entertainment began, a synopsis of the week video was played (which
is available for purchase). It was put together very nicely and I regret not purchasing it. We were
informed that the ship would be entering Miami around 11 pm instead of tomorrow morning due to the
fact they would be working on the propulsion system. Because of this, the shops and casino would close
at 10. Many passengers were not happy with this. We made our way outside and enjoyed watching our
ship enter into Miami. The city was beautiful at night with all the neon lights and all. Around midnight, we
went to the disco thinking since the casino was closed it would be jumping. Not a soul. Guess everyone
went to bed early.
Day 8-Debarkation Breakfast was served in the dining room and by the time we were finished,
passengers were already getting off. This was one of the smoothest debarkations we ever had. We
were able to wait for our color tag to be called in any public area. Seats were hard to find, but we found
plenty in the casino. The only complaint I have about getting off the ship, is regarding luggage claim.
Royal has a system that uses a luggage carousel (like at the airport). We thought the luggage would be
separated onto different carousels by color (which makes sense). All the baggage was mixed onto 3 or 4
carousels. With 3,000 passengers, this took forever. Also noticed many people were removing the
wrong bags and heard 3 or 4 people claim their luggage was gone. We all had stubs that should have
been checked by personnel, but they weren’t. My husband and I spent this day and night in South
Beach and had a great time. Spending that extra day helps to ease the post cruise depression.
Conclusion This was an amazing ship. I’ve enjoyed every cruise I’ve been on, but the Voyager is the
only ship I would rebook to experience again. The food was just fair, but the variety and the service
made up for that. If you are looking for a vacation on a ship that is beyond compare, this is the one.
And, just in case you were wondering-by the end of the week- our luck at the casino didn’t change- my
husband won and I lost!
