The Renaissance V overall was a good ship. However, do to its size many of the luxuries
that bigger ships have to offer
were compromised. For instance, the ship offered almost no entertainment. Besides the
video library and the ?casino?
(2 slot machines and 1 black-jack table) there were no activities on board. This ship
would definitely not be a good ship
for families. I was told the maximum number of children on each cruise almost never
reached past 2. You had better
hope that you get along with your fellow passengers, because they are the only thing
you?ve got.
The food however, takes over where the entertainment left off. There is a good selection
for each meal. For breakfast
and lunch, there is the option to eat either ??poolside?? (the pool is about the size of a
small hot tub), or in the
restaurant. The poolside choice offers you a buffet with many selections, while the
restaurant has a menu with a great
variety.
The excursions also lived up to or surpassed my expectations. The ship offered a great
variety of tours from full days,
half days, and dinners. Everyone on the ship had a choice that suited him or her.
The Renaissance V was a great ship and I would recommend it to anyone traveling without
children.

My wife and I just completed our 2nd cruise with Renaissance, the first was on the R2 in December 1998.
This cruise offered and excellent intinerary for the price. The 2 for 1 special was hard to pass up. We
choose the owner's suite cabin, 21 days at sea is a long time and we felt the difference of $50.00 per day
per person over the "B" category was well worth the extra cost. We had a "B" category cabin on our first
Renissance cruise. The "R" class ships are all the same 1 thru 5, the 6 thru 8 are going to be confiquered
different cabin wise, no "B" class cabins. Overall the cruise was very enjoyable, the biggest down fall of
Renissance is the shore excursions, over priced, poor quality, disorganized. The Cruise Director had
beenwith Renissance for sometime, many pasengers remembered her from prior cruise's, and she self
admitted to being over 50 and being a Grandmother. The room service and dining room staff overall were
poorly trained. Renissance refuses to give and air fare allowance if you wish to do your own air, you must
take their air charters (World Airways). We paid extra for one of the 34 business class seats available. The
service going was what you would expect for a charter, returning was a disaster, over two hours for check in,
at the airport in Stockholm. The plane left over 2 hours late, many passengers missed their conections at
JFK. Overall I would say, you get what you pay for. We had a lovely cabin, passable food, over priced
drinks, but we will most likely give them another try in the future.
